FAQs

Do I have to pay for a trial?

No, we offer a free 30 minute trial class so you can use the platform and get an idea of what your classes might involve.

How can I pay for classes?

You can pay online using Paypal (from your account, or payment using credit or debit card) or via Transferwise.

Do I need to pay to use the teaching platform?

No, we use a free platform. You can use it directly from your browser but it works best if it is downloaded. It enables live conversation, file sharing and screen sharing.

Can I switch teachers?

Yes of course, it is completely flexible. We recommend sticking with a teacher for at least a month, but if you want to change to get a different personality and teaching style, that is no problem. Your previous teacher will pass their lesson reports to your new teacher.

Can we use my own Spanish book?

If you have a particular book you would like to continue working with, you can send it in digital format and your teacher can incorporate it into the lessons.

Do you offer “in person” classes?

We do! Check out our website to plan a trip to Guatemala, study with our teachers in person and take part in our great cultural and fun activities too.

Will the trial be with the same teacher?

Not necessarily, it depends on the timetable you request and teacher availability.

How often do I pay for classes?

Most of our packages are monthly (except our super intensive courses) so you pay at the beginning of the month. If you choose to pay for two months or more at a time you receive an additional discount.

Can I get a certificate?

Yes, we can write you a certificate showing your study time and level achieved.

Can I change my class package?

Most of the packages are by month, but if you need to change or upgrade your package, then that is no problem. You just need to communicate with us by email.

Can I change my timetable?

The idea is that you have a fixed timetable per month. However, if you need to alter this, you must do so in communication with our coordinator (who will arrange it with your teacher).

How long do the classes last?

The minimum time is 55 minutes. If you combine classes (2 or 3 during the same session), then you can take breaks or finish the final session earlier.

Are the packages per week or month?

We have 2 different types - 1) Intensive weekly packages for people who have a short total amount of time to study (but can do 20 or 25 classes a week).

2) Monthly packages - you choose which number of hours suits you per month, and if you want a different amount not listed, just email us!

All of our teachers are experienced giving one-on-one Spanish tutoring to all different levels. All have undertaken teacher training, and have at least 2 years of experience (most have 5+ years)

Where are the teachers based?

Utatlan is based in Guatemala, in the city of Quetzaltengo, and was founded in 1990. Guatemala is famous for Spanish tuition as the accent is fairly “neutral” and therefore easy to understand.

Can I study with a friend?

Yes, you can. If you prefer to study with a friend (either in the same room, or both on the digital call in separate places) we can arrange it, and we will adjust the price accordingly.

What happens if I need to cancel a class?

If you cancel with at least 24 hours notice, then the class is not charged, and we can rearrange it for another day. If the cancelation is last minute, then it cannot be refunded or rescheduled.
